You hit the nail on the head.  Synthesizing my own opinions with yours and others, I would like to change that slightly.

&lt;i&gt;"A software engineer is someone who loves solving problems (over writing code, using code as a means to an end) by adequately making use of the available resources."&lt;/i&gt;

The point here is that REAL software engineers (as opposed to "programmers"), don't care what language they use, as long as they efficiently solve the problem.</description>
